In the West, the poppy (Papaver somniferum) is often associated with sleep and rest (due to its calming and sedative properties in medicinal use); it is also the symbol of Remembrance Day (Poppy Day), representing mourning for those who perished in war and a longing for peace.
In China, however, the poppy is deeply imbued with the humanistic sentiment of “the embodiment of Consort Yu,” symbolizing unwavering love and devotion to ideals—a kind of spiritual purity and resilience.

In traditional herbal records, the application of poppy is relatively gentle (such as clearing heat and easing cough).Although it does not contain high concentrations of addictive substances like morphine found in opium poppy, it still carries mild toxicity and is generally not recommended for casual use.In its natural form, its petals are lighter and more translucent, with bright yet refined colors; commonly found in fields and garden settings, it is often regarded as a more poetic presence—suggesting a tender sense of “letting go.”

This shared meaning across cultures… belongs to nature, and also reflects human emotional experience.
