Welcome to JR-workshop
My name is Joshua, and I am the founder of JR-workshop.
Since childhood, I have had a passion for painting and crafts. In college, I met my wife, and we both majored in fine arts, later immersing ourselves in the field of visual design. Now, as I reach middle age, I’ve chosen to “make things difficult for myself” by starting from scratch as a craftsman. This decision has puzzled many around me. However, driven by passion, I’ve self-taught and researched my way from early works that friends jokingly called “archaeological finds” to becoming a mature creator and artisan. All the time, effort, and dedication I’ve invested have not been in vain.
With my wife’s understanding and support, we established JR-workshop. From design to production, we pour our hearts into every piece, handcrafted in our workshop, reflecting our love and dedication to the craft. My wife’s fascination with stained glass in churches sparked our exploration of enamel art. Throughout our journey in learning this art form, we’ve experimented with various techniques, from cloisonné to the openwork Enamel(plique-à-jour), and detailed hand-painted enamel.
In an age where technology can solve almost any problem, enamel craftsmanship remains deeply rooted in manual labor. The colors are not as intuitively adjustable as in conventional painting and require firing at temperatures above 700°C to reveal their true beauty. Only through constant testing and experience can we master the color variations and cracking that occur during firing. This unpredictable process often leads to surprising chemical reactions, embodying the charm of enamel art.
We enjoy creating delightful things and aspire to a peaceful yet powerful life. Crafting allows us to tune out the world’s noise, focusing instead on our work and the intimate relationship between people and their tools. Perfection cannot be achieved overnight; we must learn to restrain, endure, and compromise amidst various variables, gradually approaching perfection. This mirrors how God shapes us through different environments. Crafting also serves as a way to reflect and express ourselves. In the layers of color and repeated polishing, there is warmth and emotion. Although it’s labor-intensive, the rewards are immense; the slow process enables us to appreciate the meaning in every detail of life and listen to our inner voices.
We believe that every beautiful creation holds healing power! The convergence of nature’s beauty and rich classical culture inspires us. We hope to convey blessings through our tangible yet silent creations.
