Year-End Reflections | With Gratitude, Awaiting the Bloom

Spread the love

As the year turns, the atmosphere slowly fills with the quiet signs of celebration. Auspicious patterns appear on windows, and deep within the heart grows a longing for reunion and togetherness.

In our culture, the Chinese New Year has always carried a strong sense of ritual. It is a moment for gratitude toward what has passed, and a vessel for hopes and blessings for what lies ahead. This emotion, deeply rooted in cultural memory, is also the source of our creative work. Just as spring brings awakening and summer brings abundance, there must also be a season of winter — a time of retreat and quiet gestation. During this most important traditional festival, I choose to set down my tools for a while and return to the warmth of family life, allowing these moments of togetherness to quietly nourish the next chapter of creation.

Though there are no new works on the desk at this moment, revisiting past pieces created with care under the gentle glow of year’s end reveals new meanings once again.

I often think of the maple leaf earrings — a design shaped by the insistence on capturing that deep red after frost. In Eastern culture, the crimson of maple leaves is more than a marker of the season; it is a symbol of good fortune and rising luck. Its enduring color, formed through wind and frost, mirrors our hopes for the coming year — that no matter how unsteady the steps of the past, the year ahead may unfold with warmth and vitality, bringing prosperity to both life and work.

The light snowflake studs, on the other hand, are a simple expression of the wish for abundance — what is traditionally known as “a good harvest promised by timely snow.” In Eastern culture, snow has long been seen as a sign that the earth is quietly preparing for renewal. Each snowflake is unique, delicate, and fleeting, yet together they transform the entire landscape. When this imagery is translated into enamel and silver, it becomes a gentle reminder that much of our growth takes place unseen.

Peace and joy(Ping An Xi Le) may sound like modest wishes, yet they form the warm core of JR-workshop. Within the strokes of these characters lie the steadiness of mountains and rivers, as well as a sincere hope for protection in everyday life. May this unspoken blessing accompany you and your loved ones through the years — with joy in each season, and fulfillment as time goes on.

Moments of pause are meant for better encounters ahead. Creation is not a process of constant output, but a rhythm that breathes — one that requires living, observing, and resting. It is often within these quiet intervals that the direction of future work begins to take shape.

Thank you for your support and patience over the past year. As the new year begins, may you too set aside the busyness of daily life and share moments of warmth with those you hold dear.

We will meet again, when spring returns and flowers begin to bloom.
